Assignment 1, mobility – Threaten Darkish First let me explain how this essays goes which I tough it would look and sound better if the definition and samples come first and then after that and also in between I refer them to interior design and our roles and use as one.I'll start with the definition of the word mobility to get to know this term and see it's difference from the other use of mobility as in the new technology and mobile APS for workplaces. Therefore â€Å"Mobility' indicates a worker's ability to physically move around freely in he workplace to accomplish work. Mobility for work can be assisted with items such as a wheel chair, crutches, canes, a desk near the door, a scooter to ride between distant buildings, and a shuttle bus.M obility also refers to a worker's ability to take advantage of various Job opportunities ( I will write more on this issue below), including the ability to relocate, move to a superior Job position, commute a particular distance to work daily, or change positions due to family and civic responsibilities. Some impediments to the mobility of labor include personal hindrances such as geographical location and ability to move, physical and mental ability, and prior Job experiences. Social/legal hindrances to mobility include a lack of educational opportunities, family responsibilities, and various laws.A frequent use of the word, mobility, occurs when organizations use the term to define the upward mobility of employees. An employee with upward mobility has the appropriate mix of needed qualities and characteristics including experience, knowledge, skills, education, cultural fit, and availability. An employee with upward mobility potential is ready for promotional opportunities*. Now a t this point I going to write further more about the mobility of employees and various Job opportunities to see what that points to exactly and how that is related to mobility.Employee mobility is an issue that has taken on a whole new meaning as more and more businesses have gone global. Employees today are commonly asked to take assignments in company locations outside their home country. These kinds of opportunities are seen as Contemporary Issues in Interior Architecture- Fall 2014 2 benefits by many employees who enjoy experiencing new cultures and the multi- cultural exposure. Managing employee mobility is important though, because without the right training and planning, employees moving to foreign countries will not be prepared to meet the challenges such moves present.Your company does not want to find itself faced with loss of productivity, or worse, loss of its best managers because of lack of planning. Being prepared to address the issues related to employee mobility sho uld be included in the company's strategic planning. Quality of living in this matter can be an issue if a company frequently transfer employees within the country or outside the country. Either way there are concerns which should be addressed in these compensation and benefits packages.For example, in the US, a manager transferred from a small town in Texas to a large northeastern city will be faced with many of the same issues as an employee transferred from the US to Canada and that is a very simple and the most easiest transfer in contrast with moving to India or china, a completely different culture. These concerns or issues include cultural and compensation differences. These differences become more pronounced when the company re-assigns employees from a developed country to a third world country.But it is really a matter of degree. Making sure that the staff are well prepared for these types of moves will insure the transition is smooth and they remain productive. After all t he reason managers are transferred is in order to better utilize their talents and skills within the company**. Here I can say our role as an interior designers may help with these issues but with prior researching, planning, somehow rearranging their working spaces even from their own country to their destinations.So that they can familiarize themselves and got to know those areas better prior going there to make them arm proof and repaper Just in case. Many transfers involve more than the staff also. The managers and workers in general have families who are as much a part of the move as the company employees. It's important for the company to recognize the needs of the employee's family also. Unless the staff feel as if their family will also benefit from the transfer without Jeopardizing their safety or welfare, company transfers will meet a lot of resistance.In these cases also our role as interior designers can come to great use by even designing and making their homes look lik e the one in future after move, better said aka and redesign them as person by hurt so they would not feel alienated. Now here are some instances of companies and how they help these employees related with this mobility matter. Worker mobility is best gauged by the lack of impediments to such mobility. Impediments to mobility are easily divided into two distinct classes with one being personal and the other being systemic. Personal impediments include physical location, and physical and mental ability. The systemic impediments include education al opportunities as well as various laws and political contrivances and even barriers and hurdles arising from historical happenstance.Increasing and maintaining a high level of labor mobility allows a more efficient allocation of resources. Labor mobility has proven to be a forceful driver of innovations. There I also another International Labor Mobility. Which International labor mobility is the movement of workers between countries. It is an example of an international factor movement. The movement of laborers is based on a difference in resources between countries. According to economists, Over time the migration of labor should have an equalizing effect on wages, with workers in the same industries garnering the same wage.

Illuminati Research Paper Essay

Who are the illuminati? Can you rise to fame and gain money by selling your soul to the devil? Some have made a living for themselves in the spotlight without the help of the illuminati while others that joined regret their decision and would rather give up fame forever. There are many theories that will be talked about including excessive details on what illuminati supposedly is and does, background history and establishment, what the illuminati’s goals are, how to become a member, the symbols and puppets they use to spread Illuminati and brainwash people to praise this group including what they represent and how they are integrated into music, athletes, TV shows, even cartoons, and many more with much evidence on this speculation. The Illuminati is a secret society that allegedly controls world affairs and our government. It is widely believed that celebrities are the most common puppets chosen to commercialize the illuminati. Illuminati refers to various organizations claim ing to have unsubstantiated links to the original Illuminati, and often alleged to scheme to control world affairs by masterminding events and planting agents in government and corporations to establish a New World Order and gain further political power and influence. The conspiracy has been illustrated pulling the strings and levers of power, while staying hidden in shadows, in novels, movies, television shows, comics, video games and music videos. Before all the fame and money, however, the Illuminati’s first known existence was in the Bavarian illuminati, until it was ruled out by churches and the Bavarian government. The origin of this group traces back to the 1760s and a man named Adam Weishaupt, who defected from the Catholic Church and organized the Illuminati, financed by the International Bankers. Since then, according to the Illuminati, their top goal has been to achieve a â€Å"one world government† and to subjugate all religions and governments in the process. The Illuminati thus attribute all  wars since the French Revolution as having been fomented by them in their pursuit of their goals. Weishaupt wrote out a master plan in the 1770s outlining the Illuminati’s goals, finishing on May 1, 1776. In the 1780s, the Bavarian Government found out about the Illuminati’s subversive activities, forcing the Illuminati to disband and go underground. For the next few decades, the Illuminati operated under various names and guises, still in active pursuit of their ultimate goal. The Illuminati contend that they have achieved control over the world’s economy by controlling the International Bankers in their effort to create a one world. â€Å"Illuminati† claims to have unsubstantiated links to the original Bavarian Illuminati The Illuminati are a sect of the Freemasons. The Freemason adopted their beliefs and teachings from the Knights Templar, originally a religious and military organization during the crusades. By the 1300s, the Templars deemed themselves the â€Å"bankers of Europe,† because of their enormous wealth and the breadth of their organization; they were hoping to â€Å"become wealthy enough to buy the world.† The king of France and the Pope then conducted arrests and investigations of the Knights Templar. The Pope suspected the king’s investigation involved torturous methods and so h eld his own. As a result of these investigations, the Knights Templar was exposed as two-faced and evil. The Knights concealed one doctrine for only their masters – the one that proclaimed Lucifer as their god – and put forth a Christian front for the public. The Pope abolished the order and it fled underground, continuing only among its most trusted members.. When current members of the Freemasons were interviewed, they did not express any knowledge of any higher religious aims of the Orderbuthta it was an international secret fraternity based on good works. However, former members of the Masons explained that the organization was anti-Christ and Luciferically inspired, especially in its higher levels. This means that either current members would not reveal any of their knowledge because of binding oaths of secrecy, or that they were unaware of the Masons’ evil nature because they had not yet reached its highest levels. But how do you now become a member of the modern illumi nati? Members of the illuminati are chosen specifically from people that can influence others to join. You don’t join the illuminati and become a member just because you feel the need. You either are or you are not chosen. If you are in the correct circle with talents or gifts that can be  used by the group you may be chosen for particular activities including becoming an illuminati puppet, and as some are called princesses. The cost of joining after chosen costs selling your soul and worshipping the devil. Many celebrities act in the ways of illuminati, hinting that they are member or that they wish to be, but others have taken it a step further to clearly state in interviews that they sold their soul to the devil. Some talk of an alter ego they have that mimics a demon taking over the performer while performing on stage, or write lyrics in songs about joining the illuminati, selling their souls, or regretting joining in the first place. In his song â€Å"Eyes Closedâ€Å", Kanye West sates that he â€Å"I sold my soul to the devil that’s a crappy deal/Least it came with a few toys like a happy meal†. Kanye west announces that he is a illuminati member and acknowledges the fact that he does not think it was the best choice but he is rewarded by it, for example with fame, fans, and money. The illuminati allegedly runs the music industry, so by selling your soul to the devil you can gain instant fame In an interview given to Katy Perry she claimed, â€Å" when I was 15, because id grew up in a household where all I ever did was listen to gospel music and my parents were both traveling minister and so I kind of sang about what was going on in my life at 15 and that’s how I got introduced to the music industry cause I swear I wanted to be, like, the Amy grant of music, but it didn’t work out and so I sold my soul to the devil.† Katy Perry received instant fame by selling her soul to the devil, as she claims, after a failed attempt of singing gospel music on her own. Others have however written songs about regret in the illuminati or made music videos with hidden evidence showing them trying to escape the illuminati but are not able to for they appear trapped. Eminem rose to fame after going through heavy times of poverty. In his song â€Å"Say Goodbye Hollywood† Eminem says â€Å"Sayin’ goodbye, sayin’ goodbye to Hollywood â€Å"I don’t wanna quit, but shit, I feel like this is it/For me to have this much appeal like this is sick/This is not a game, this fame, in real life this is sick/†¦I love my fans/But no one ever puts a grasp on the fact/i’ve sacrificed everything I have/I never dreamt i’d get to the level that i’m at, this is whack/This is more than I ever could of asked/everywhere I go, a hat, a sweater hood, or mask/What about math, how come I wasn’t ever good at that/It’s like the boy in the bubble, who never/could adapt, i’m trapped/If I could go back, I  never woulda rapped/I sold my soul to the/devil, i’ll never get it back/I just wanna leave this game with level head intact Imagine goin’ from bein’ a no one to seein’,/ev erything blow up and all you did was just/grow up emceeing/It’s fuckin’ crazy/Cause all I wanted was to give Hailie the life I never had/But instead I forced us to live alienated, so i’m sayin’†¦Ã¢â‚¬ . emienem sold his soul to the devil and apparently regrets it but knows he is trapped, with no way of escaping. His reason for selling his soul is to give Hailey a life without hardship like himself, and he was in need of money to be able to raise her. He wants to leave Hollywood and stay away from fame as much as he can because he is sick of how it all came to him and he feels that he does not deserve this and make a mistake by sacrificing his soul for a fake life. In one line he says that he would never have rapped if he knew about this in the beginning. Unlike he did in this song, in other videos Eminem wears illuminati symbols like the eye of the devil. Many celebrities are constantly pictured flashing signs, either in concerts, music videos, or posing for pictures but what do these signs represent? Signs of the illuminati have become so common that celebrities who are constantly seen posing with them continue this less noticeably. The first symbol is the all Seeing Eye, or the eye of providence, one of the most widely recognized symbols of the Illuminati. The All-Seeing Eye was added to the original design of the Great Seal of the United States in 1776 by Pierre Eugà ¨ne Du Simitià ¨re and remained on the Seal with the addition of an unfinished pyramid when it was finally adopted in 1782. In 1935 the Great Seal was added to the $1 dollar note, the most widely circulated note on the planet, by President and Freemason Franklin D. Roosevelt. It represents the Eye of Lucifer. The Eye can see all and oversees its minions which are represented by the individual bricks of the pyramid. The 13 steps of the pyramid represent the 13 Illuminati Bloodlines which collectively rule over the planet. The year 1776 represent the founding of the Bavarian Illuminati by Adam Weishaupt. The eye is contained inside a triangular pyramid, which celebrities show by making the shape of a triangle with their hands. Some of these people include Kanye West, Jay-z, and Beyonce. All these people are affiliated with Roc-A-Fella records, Rockefeller being one of the thirteen bloodlines of the original illuminati .Another is the el diable used by lifting two fingers that represent the devils ,Lucifer’s, horns. The next  symbol is an owl. The owl is the symbol of Minerva, the goddess of wisdom, which relates to the illuminati seeing themselves as the wise rulers of the planet. Nest is the pentagram which symbolizes the practice and promotion of black magic. Another is the famou s six, six, six sign. This one is very commonly flashed with a circle made with the thumb and index finger in a hand and the three fingers pointing upwards forming three sixes .this is the number of the beast and antichrist. One person most famous for this is Miley Cyrus who uses this in countless music videos. The number of the beast is associated with the anti Christ who will eventually want to take control of the illuminati as the new world order is formed. The music industry incorporates this symbol, the others, and additionally more endlessly whether in videos, randomly, or at award shows. Lucifer is pictured as the Baphomet, a ram with his two horns. Beyonce claims in an interview with Marie Claire â€Å"I’ve created an alter ego: things I do when performing I would never do normally. I reveal things about myself that I wouldn’t do in an interview. I have out-of-body experiences [on stage]. If I cut my leg, if I fall, I don’t even feel it. I’m so fearless, I’m not aware of my face or my body,† .She later stated that this would not take over her until she looks at her fans, seconds before she starts to perform on stage. She explains her alter ego like a devi ls spirit that takes over of her when she performs that is not the real her, but as she calls it, Sasha fierce. The illuminati is secretly attempting to steadily take over all of the government to form a new world order no matter what it takes. Whether it be corrupting the music industry, integrating symbols in commercials and cartoons, or having puppets, it is all done. Illuminati puppets are used to brainwash others to worship this civilization of the devil, but you can be awakened, to realize not to fall into this trap, and learn to trust and hold on to your own values and earn the respect and money you deserve while staying true to yourself, and not becoming a fake. Educating African American Men

  In the last quarter century, the social and economic status of the African American male in the US has been described to be steadily deteriorating (Johnson, Farrell, & Braithwaite, 2001).   Ã‚  There are an estimated 18 million African American men in the US today, but majority of this number encounter problems and challenges unique to the African American community (Independent Lens, 2007).Numerous studies have shown that the rates of school failure, unemployment, homicide, incarceration, and other anti-social behaviors for African American males far exceed those for their Caucasian, Hispanic, and Asian male counterparts (Johnson et al., 2001).Statistics from the Bureau of Justice show that African American victimization rates in 2000 alone were higher by 20% as compared to those in the general population, while homicide rate for African Americans have been 5 times higher than that of the general population for several decades.Homicide has been the primary cause of death for A frican American males between the ages of 15 to 34.   And while the percentage of African American men graduating from college has almost quadrupled since the passage of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, more and more African American males are earning their high school equivalency diplomas in prison each year instead of graduating from college (Independent Lens, 2007).The Bureau of Justice Statistics further provide that less than half of African American boys graduate from high school four years after entering the ninth grade.   More than half of the US’ 5.6 million African American boys (below 18) live in fatherless households, 40% of which are impoverished.And while the ranks of professional African American men have experienced a huge increase in the last four decades (for instance, as of 2004 there were 78,000 African American male engineers, which was a 33% increase in 10 years), 840,000 African American men remain incarcerated, with the chances of an African American boy serving time increasing nearly threefold in the last three decades (Independent Lens, 2007).Related studies further support the evidence presented by the Bureau of Justice Statistics.  Ã‚   Edelman and Offner (2006) in their study indicate that in inner cities, more than half of all African American men do not finish high school.   In 2000, 65% of African American male high school dropouts in their 20s were jobless – meaning, they were unable to find work, or were not seeking work, or were incarcerated.   By 2004, the number of jobless African American men increased to 72%, compared to 34% for Caucasian men, and 19% for Hispanic male high school dropouts.   In 2004 as well, half of African American men in their 20s were jobless, and these numbers unfortunately included African American men who had earned their high school diplomas (Edelman & Offner, 2006).Furthermore, the movement of the labor force away from factory-based jobs has left unskilled workers of all races with fewer and fewer job options.   As of 2004, 50% of African American men in their 20s who did not have a college education were jobless, while 72% of African American male high school dropouts remained jobless (Western, 2006).These staggering statistics perhaps sadly reflect the difficult life that many African American men in the US have to face.   The inequality and punishment that lower-income African American men must deal with on a daily basis has been much documented in many studies.These economic and social challenges may be rooted in the African American subculture, and would require an extensive analysis of the cultural patterns and behaviors.The statistics showing the unemployment rate of lower-income African American males have also shown that they do not receive the same kind of opportunity that their Caucasian counterparts may have – however, the statistics also show that this status of being unemployed may be largely attributed to the lack of education o f the African American male.Dropping out of high school, not completing a college education, incarceration – all these are factors which contribute to the social and economic deterioration of the African American male.As a way of addressing this social and economic deterioration of the African American male, this study will attempt to draw up a learning community which will allow for the African American adult male to achieve his fullest potential.  Ã‚   The paper will seek to establish a system of adult education wherein African American males may have the opportunity to elevate and improve their social and economic status in society.Section 11.  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Background  Subsection 1.1.1.  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Definition of a Learning CommunityThe concept of a â€Å"learning community† involves two distinct words which have been used in varying but traditionally separate contexts (â€Å"Learning Community – A Definition,† 1998).   The Encyc lopà ¦dia Britannica defines learning as â€Å"the alteration of behavior as a result of individual experience.   When an organism can perceive and change its behavior, it is said to learn† (â€Å"Learning,† 2007).On the other hand, TheFreeDictionary defines community as â€Å"a group of organisms or populations living and interacting with one another in a particular environment.   The organisms in a community affect each other’s abundance, distribution, and evolutionary adaptation† (â€Å"Community,† 2007).Taking the two definitions together, a learning community can then be understood to be an environment wherein a population lives and interacts with each other in order to perceive and change their behavior.Within the academic setting, more specific definitions of a learning community have been provided for in previous research studies.  Ã‚   The concept has been defined as something located in the context of education for the young â€⠀œ 4 or 5 years old until 17 years old – as composing â€Å"a group of students and at least one educator who, for a while and motivated by common vision and will, are engaged in the pursuit of acquiring knowledge, abilities and attitudes† (â€Å"Learning Community – A Definition,† 1998).Kowch and Schwier (1997) in their study defines a learning community as â€Å"a collection of individuals who are bound together by natural will and a set of shared ideas and ideals† (p. 1) and as composed of â€Å"autonomous, independent individuals engaged by influencing each other with a learning process† (Kowch & Schwier, 1997, p. 1).Cross (1998) provides for a similar definition of learning communities as â€Å"groups of people engaged in intellectual interaction for the purpose of learning† (p.4).In her outline, Kirby (2000) identifies different types of learning community models: · Technological learning community.   This model involves stu dents who are connected through technological communications.   The educational program, which is linked to schools, is offered online to students. ·Community education involvement.   This model involves entire communities participating in the operation of public schools and their educational outcomes. ·Cohort learning community.   This last model identified by Kirby involves students who go through an entire educational program or set of courses as cohorts.   Student cohorts are students â€Å"commencing a course of study in a particular year with a particular higher education provider† (â€Å"Glossary A-Z,† 2007).A cohort learning community may be presented in different ways: 1) college undergraduate students with the same major housed in the same dorm, with special arrangements provided for group study; 2) courses taught as a unit, whether for a semester or a school year, with the same students enrolled in each of the classes in the unity; 3) students be ginning an academic program together, being exposed to the same knowledge base, and eventually graduating together (Kirby, 2000).Each of these three learning community models may be applied in various ways and at various educational levels.   Past studies on learning communities have also identified different learning community models.   For instance, Shapiro and Levine (1999) categorized learning community models as paired/clustered courses, freshman interest groups, team-taught programs, and/or residential learning communities.On the other hand, Lenning and Ebbers (1999) categorized learning community models as curricular, classroom, residential, and student-type.  Ã‚   In their study, Freeman, Field, and Dyrenfurth (2001) integrate these previous models and have come up with four general categories for learning community models: ·Collateral course-based learning community model.   This category is identical to Kirby’s (2000) cohort learning community model.   S tudents may take two or more courses together as a cohort group.   This model may involve only two classes or the students’ entire course program for one or more semesters.   Educational programs may be discipline-based or cross-disciplinary theme-based. ·Residential learning community model.   Again, this is similar to Kirby’s (2000) cohort learning model, in that students live together in the same house or dormitory.   Unlike Kirby’s model however, this model proposed by Freeman, et al. (2001), does not necessarily require that the students take common classes or the same course.According to Shapiro and Levine (1999), the residential learning community model integrates the living and academic environment of the students involved. ·Freshman interest groups.   This learning community involves entering a freshman with a particular subject interest, not necessarily in the same major, and allowing the freshman to take grouped or linked courses around that specific area of interest. ·Student-type learning community model.   This learning model, such as honor students, and students with disabilities.   It may or may not involve common courses or living arrangements (Freeman et al., 2001).For purposes of this paper, it is important to understand the definition of a learning community since the latter basically pertains to a group of learners.   In this case, the particular group of learners are African American male adults.   It thus becomes relevant to provide a background on what a learning community is in order to understand how to set about developing an appropriate learning community for African American male adults.It is noteworthy to point out that application of one learning community model does not necessarily mean the exclusion of another model or models.  Ã‚   According to Freeman et al. (2001), a learning community may be structured by following either one model or a combination of models, or even an entirel y new and different model.There is no required or strict standard which must be followed since the needs of the student population or target audience will necessarily vary per environment.  Ã‚   Rasmussen and Skinner (1997) in their landmark study on learning communities provides for the following insight:â€Å"The best design will depend on [the] institutional environment and the specific disciplines to be integrated as well as the characteristics of the faculty and students who will participate.The goal is to provide a richer range of learning experiences to our students and contribute to a more vibrant and supportive campus environment for students and faculty alike† (Rasmussen & Skinner, 1997, p. 15).Regardless of the learning community model selected however, the essence of a learning community should be producing a collaborative, harmonious environment between the teachers and the students.   It should allow for greater interaction of students with their teachers an d peers.   Correlational evidence shows that students who participate in learning communities display more intellectual growth and get more out of their education than less involved students (Cross, 1998).

Film Reveiew – American Beauty

I chose this film due to its difference to conventional filmmaking, as instead of glorifying the main characters, the area and plot, it shows fault and illustrates the main characters as sad and unhappy. I chose to do this review on the opening minutes of the film describing in detail the camera shots and plot, as it would seem to the viewer watching for the first time. The opening scene is a medium shot of the main character's daughter lying on a bed talking. The screen is fuzzy, to give the impression of looking through a video camera. The daughter is talking to someone behind the camera, giving the impression of talking to the viewer or audience. She is talking about how much she dislikes and hates her father (Lester, the main character). This gives the impression of watching a personal film and the viewer is involved, as it appears at first that the character is talking to the audience until the hidden person filming speaks. The scene ends when the character behind the camera offers to kill the girl's father. The screen goes blank and the film title appears in medium red print on a black background, central to the screen. This sudden change from shot is to represent the plot to end a life, as the transition to a blank black screen. The next shot after the title is a top shot of a typical suburban American street on a slow zoom in towards the road. There is a narrative, male voice over of the main character Lester, describing his death. This would appear to fit with the previous scene of the daughter talking about murdering her father This creates a feeling of curiosity and suspense throughout the film, for the viewer, who is waiting to see what could have created such a gap between father and daughter. This effect of giving away the ending in the first scene is very effective in creating constant suspense throughout the film up to the dramatic climax. It has been used in many films and plays including William Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet. Gradually when the camera zooms in the shot switches to a bird's eye view of the main character lying in his bed, alone. This first shot of him shows him as lonely or incomplete even though he has a family. The camera then changes to a close up of his face, which appears sad and disorientated, further showing his dislike for his current lifestyle. There is then a jump cut to a pair of slippers on the floor next to the bed, being filmed from under the bed. This shot represents an ordered and scheduled lifestyle as the slippers must have been placed neatly next to the bed the previous night. The next frame switches to a medium long shot of the main character (Lester) masturbating in the shower. The effect of this is to shock the audience yet at the same time inspire pity at his frustrated and dull life as he continues to narrate over the film about himself, showing little embarrassment. The next scene is a close up of a Rose flower, which is then cut from the plant by a pair of pruning sheers. The Rose is constantly seen throughout the film, as well as rose petals, however rarely alive. They are usually in vases or on show. The roses, I feel, represent the lifestyle of the family. The rose looks perfect and appears very beautiful however it is dead. The family are similar, as they appear to have everything most people want, their health, nice house, money yet they are not happy. The roses are a constant theme throughout the film, I feel to remind us of the families unhappiness. The next frame sees the camera switch to a medium long shot of Carolyn (the main character's wife) holding the freshly cut rose in her hand. This shot represents that she too was once alive but is now dying inside like the rose. All in all I found this film extremely interesting and thought provoking, I would recommend it to anybody who enjoys twisting plots, amazing acting and some of the most brilliant (and strange) characters in modern day cinema. The slow unravelling of the plot keeps you guessing until the very end of the film, as well as challenging modern day society and depicting modern day family life and the hypocrisy of Suburban America.

Being the son of a pagan father, Patricia, and devout Christian mother, Monica, the young Augustine had least interest in Christianity in his early youth. Being an energetic and carefree youth, he spent most of his time in dissipation and revelry making. Hence, he was neither interested in paganism, nor did he display any inclination towards her mother’s conversion. However, he had developed great taste for philosophy and maintained aptitude for reading. â€Å"After a rather unremarkable childhoo d, Augustine drifted through several philosophical systems before converting to Christianity at the age of thirty-one. At the age of nineteen, Augustine read Cicero's Hortensius, an experience that led him into the fascination with philosophical questions and methods that would remain with him throughout his life.† (ccel.org) Since St. Monica, his mother, had dedicated her life for the cause of her religion, she vehemently lamented over Augustine’s sticking to the pagan faith. Somehow, the circumstances observed astounding change, and Augustine started abhorring dissipation; eventually his social life was confined to reading and brooding. The remarkable mysterious call, inviting him to adopt the path of virtue and glory was too powerful to resist. Consequently, he embraced Manichaean faith viewing it as the right path to be followed. Somehow, his discussions with his friend Simplicianus and his mother’s insisting forced him to study the new religious doctrine. St . Ambrose of Milan played decisive role in his conversion, and he adopted Christianity not just to imitate others; rather, he entered the faith on the concrete foundations of his deep study, meditative examination and thorough analysis of the Christian teachings.
